Hyundai Motor Finance, Kia Finance America, and Genesis Finance have announced updated co-signer document requirements that may impact contract funding. Effective June 1, 2026, all contract packages must include a co-signer notice when applicants reside at different addresses.
A completed co-signer form is required on all true co-signer transactions, both retail and lease, when applicants are not married and do not share a household. This applies nationwide, with some states carrying additional, state-specific requirements.
Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis list LAW® as their approved co-signer document provider and state that only approved documents will be accepted, with no exceptions. Most dealers will use the multi-state LAW-177U (3/15). State-specific documents are:
-
California
-
Iowa
-
Illinois
-
North Carolina
-
New York
-
Pennsylvania
-
South Carolina
-
Texas
Dealers have a 30-day grace period, beginning June 1, to make the transition. After that, unapproved forms will not be accepted and funding delays may follow.
